Acne Treatments

There are too many acne treatments in the marketplace to count.  Some are great, some misleading, and some just downright worthless.  There is no "best acne treatment" and there is no acne cure.  Each person responds differently to each type of acne treatment so discovering what works best for you is often a trial and error process.

At acnesource, our goal is to provide you with comprehensive, objective and accurate information about the most widely used acne treatments available so that you can decide for yourself (and with your acne specialist) which one is right for you.

We're often asked if there's a good home remedy for acne.  Still others ask how to get rid of pimples naturally.  Our answer to these questions is that there are certainly good over the counter products to consider.  Whether they represent a good acne solution for you is another matter because everyone responds differently.

It's important to keep in mind when choosing an acne remedy that acne treatment is not a "one size fits all" proposition.  Some of you will get great results with over the counter products, others need prescription medications, and still others use laser treatments.  Clear skin is something that we all have to work for and choosing the right acne treatment is part of the process.  If you start with the expectation that you are going to find an acne cure, you are setting yourself up for disappointment because acne is a condition that is managed rather than cured.

So, if you're asking yourself how to get rid of acne, search no further.  Find the best acne treatment for you by clicking on one of the treatment links below.

Although there is no acne cure, some acne treatments may represent a good acne solution or a good acne remedy.  In addition to these acne treatments, there are also some general principals that go along with getting rid of your pimples naturally.  To maintain clear skin without using any of the treatments above, try the following general principals of acne management.

General principals of acne management

  • Whenever possible, avoid excessively humid conditions such a saunas, unventilated kitchen or tropical vacations.
  • Do not to apply irritant oils (lanolin etc.) or heavy cosmetics to acne areas.
  • Abrasive skin treatments like excessive washing or exfoliating can aggravate both comedones and inflammatory lesions.
  • Do not scratch or pick the spots.
  • Finding an acne solution can sometimes be a slow process, so be patient.
