Shaving

Shaving is not a cause of acne, but can easily irritate it further. There are several tips to make it easier to shave wiwth your acne.

  • Warm up your face. Before shaving, prep the area with warm water. The hydration makes your skin softer and easier to move the razor over.
  • Use the right razor. Try an electric razor. For some acne patients it is the lesser of two evils when it comes to shaving with a blade or the electric.
  • Shave with the grain. Try to get into the habit of shaving with the grain. This usually means shaving down rather than up. This will cut down on irritation and thus acne.
  • Use Toner . When you're finished shaving, you may want to apply a mild alcohol-free toner (witch hazel is a gentle alternative) or antibacterial gel.
