Hygiene

One of the most common myths about acne is that it's caused by dirt. Acne is caused by a combination of factors such as hormone balance and the natural pace of your skin's renewal system (scale). The good news is that with some quick hygiene tips you should be abe to improve your acne condition.

  • Don't over-wash. Excessive scrubbing and washing won't make acne go away. It will only increase inflammation and cause additional acne lesions.
  • Wash or exfoliate only with gentle cleansers. Using products that have harsh exfoliants will increase irritation, inflammation and acne.
  • Do not use skin care products with alcohol. Witch hazel is a good substitute.
  • Don't pick your face. It will only lead to more acne and acne scars.
  • Keep your hands off the face as much as possible. Naturally occuring acne bacteria are spread by your hands as you touch your face.
  • Shower or cleanse after exercising. Pores are filled with excess oil after exercise so it is important to wash immediately after exercise.
