Diet

One of the most common acne myths is that there are certain foods that can aggrevate acne. This commonly held perception has been disproven many times in clinical research studies. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, “A healthy diet is important for improving raw materials for healthy skin,” but they also note that greasy or sugary foods do not cause acne.  In addition, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association concurred, “Diet plays no role in acne treatment in most patients…even large amounts of certain foods have not clinically exacerbated acne.” So, how does food relate to acne?

In a much less direct way, what we eat can affect the our health and the health of the largest organ, our skin. By eating healthy foods, our immune system is strong and the body has the nutrients necessary for good skin health. So, indirectly, by eating the right foods, you will be strengthening the skin and giving yourself the best possible chance of fighting acne outbreaks.
