Stress causes acne.
Although stress is not a direct cause
of acne, this myth does have some basis in truth. When we
become stressed, our body increases production of cortisol, which
in turn causes the sebaceous
glands to produce more oil. Individual stress responses
vary dramatically, so it’s difficult to gauge a “typical”
effect on the skin. Also remember that even good stress, like the
excitement of planning a wedding or anticipation of going to college,
can trigger a stress response.
