Scrubbing and toning the skin stops acne.

Because acne is not caused by dirt, excessive washing won't fix the problem.  Harsh exfoliants using small dense particles can actually irritate or tear the skin, increasing the chances of infection acne breakout.  In addition, alcohol-based toners can strip the skin of necessary oils, leaving it dry and irritated.  This in turn can cause the skin to produce more sebum oil, which in turn can lead to more acne.  For the best cleansing results, use a gentle medicated scrub and an alcohol-free toner.
