What is Acne?
Acne
is an inflammatory disease of the sebaceous
glands and hair
follicles that is marked by the eruption of pimples
or pustules, especially on the face.
Also known as acne vulgaris, zits, pimples, whiteheads,
blackheads, cystic acne, papules or pustules, acne is a skin condition
that a vast majority of the population will experience during their
lives. Although acne is not a serious health risk, it can
have a severe effect on your physical
and emotional well being.
Severe acne can lead to disfiguring, permanent
scarring, emotional distress and social
isolation. Nearly 1 in 3 Americans will struggle with
moderate or severe acne
at some point during their lives, making it the most common skin
disorder.
