Teen Acne
By some estimates, three out of four adolescents are affected by
teen acne acne. Teen acne can have a highly detrimental affect
on self-confidence and self esteem during this critical phase of
psychological development. Many adolescents feel embarrassed
by teen acne outbreaks and often isloate themselves socially during
these periods.
Acne is more prevelant among young adults and adolescents than
in any other age group. This fact is due primarily to the
wholesale hormonal changes
that are occuring in adolescents. To illustrate this fact,
an average teenage boy can be producing as much as 5 times the amount
of sebum (oil) that a normal adult male. because of this overactive
oil production, it is easy to understand why teen acne is such a
problem for adolescents.
Acne occurs when the hair follicles are blocked. Each follicle
contains sebaceous glands that produce a fatty oil (sebum) that
lubricates your hair and skin. When too much oil id produced, it
can combine with dead skin cells (scale) to create a blocked pre.
This in turn leads to an acne infection or pimple.
Teen acne can be contagious in that picking at or popping pimples
may cause irritation and further breakouts in the immediate area.
Picking also has the additional (and dangerous) side effect of potentially
causing lifelong scarring.
Teens have always known, and medical studies now prove, that having
acne means you're treated differently. Teen acne afflicts
adolescents at a time when they are at their most vulnerable developmental
period. For this reason, it is vitally important that they
have an effective way to treat acne.
