Adapalene

Adapalene works to treat acne by keeping skin pores clear. Adapalene works to keep scale from blocking pores.

General Information:

  • Adapalene has not been studied in pregnant women, and is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breast feeding.
  • Use of Adapalene may cause or increase the irritation associated with eczema or seborrheic dermatitis.
  • Adapalene may cause irritation if applied to windburned or sunburned skin or on open wounds.
  • Adapalene may cause irritation if applied around the eyes, lips, or inside of the nose.
  • The following types of products should be avoided when using Adapalene:
    • Hair products that irritate the skin, such as permanents or hair removal products.
    • Skin products containing a peeling agent such as benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid, or sulfur.
    • Skin products that cause one to be more sensitive to the sun, such as those containing spices or limes.
    • Skin products that are too drying or that contain a large amount of alcohol, such as astringents, cosmetics, shaving creams, or after-shave lotions.
    • Skin products that are abrasive, such as some soaps or skin cleansers.

Side Effects:

  • Adapalene may cause a burning or stinging sensation.
  • Adapalene may cause dryness and peeling, itching and redness.
  • Worsening of acne  (especially shortly immediately after treatment begins).
