Clindamycin
General Information:
Clindamycin is an antibiotic that works to fight acne by killing
acne bacteria.
Clindamycin can be used topically, orally or intravenously and is
quickly absorbed after oral administration. Absorption is not affected
by food.
Side Effects :
Clindamycin is generally well tolerated. However there are some
important side effects that may affect people taking the medicine
orally or by injection (these same side effects are very rarely
seen with the topical preparations).
- Clindamycin has been associated with colitis. Symptoms can range
from mild watery diarrhea to severe, persistent diarrhea with
fever, abdominal cramps and the passage of blood and mucus.
- Hives, redness and allergic reactions have been reported in
those using clindamycin.
- Clindamycin may cause liver jaundice (dark urine, yellow eyes
and skin).
- Clindamycin may cause inflammation of several joints).
- Clindamycin has not been approved for safe use with pregnant
or breast feeding women.
- Clindamycin may counteract the effects of erythromycin.
