General Information:

Clindamycin is an antibiotic that works to fight acne by killing acne bacteria. Clindamycin can be used topically, orally or intravenously and is quickly absorbed after oral administration. Absorption is not affected by food.

Side Effects :

Clindamycin is generally well tolerated. However there are some important side effects that may affect people taking the medicine orally or by injection (these same side effects are very rarely seen with the topical preparations).

  • Clindamycin has been associated with colitis. Symptoms can range from mild watery diarrhea to severe, persistent diarrhea with fever, abdominal cramps and the passage of blood and mucus.
  • Hives, redness and allergic reactions have been reported in those using clindamycin.
  • Clindamycin may cause liver jaundice (dark urine, yellow eyes and skin).
  • Clindamycin may cause inflammation of several joints).
  • Clindamycin has not been approved for safe use with pregnant or breast feeding women.
  • Clindamycin may counteract the effects of erythromycin.
