How do lasers work?

Yag (1319 nm)

Neodinium Yag (Nd:Yg) lasers use a 1319 nm wavelength light beam to shrink the sebaceous (oil) glands and kill acne bacteria. Because overactive oil glands are a primary cause of acne, these laser works by lowering the oil production and killing bacteria.

The properties of the 1319 nanometer Yag laser light are such that the primary target for the intense laser light is liquid. Consequently, the laser is most attracted to the oil in the sebaceous glands. As the oil gland absorbs the laser energy, it shrinks because of the intense heat thus lowering oil production.

The heat generated by the Nd:Yg laser also kills p.acne bacteria but the primary means for treating acne is shrinking the oil glands.
