KTP (532 nm)

KTP lasers use a 532 nm wavelength. These lasers have traditionally been used to treat vascular conditions such as small capillaries and general redness. Recent studies have found that this wavelength is effective for killing p.acne bacteria.

The properties of the 532 nanometer KTP laser light are such that the primary target for the intense laser light is the hemoglobin in blood. Consequently, the laser is most attracted to small blood vessels in and around the hair follicles where acne resides. As these vessels absorb the intense laser energy, they kill the nearby p.acne bacteria, thereby preventing acne. Because the p.acne bacteria can return, this type of treatment typically needs to be repeated on an ongoing basis.
